Drama

At NE school we enjoy superb drama facilities, with a modern purpose built studio complete with stage, sound and lighting desk, large costume room and an adjoining rehearsal room. To compliment this, the large school hall provides an excellent environment for performances and shows.

Our experienced drama teachers inspire the students by providing challenging and energetic lessons. Students benefit from our excellent relationships with local theatre groups, including the Royal and Derngate, with regular opportunities to view performances and participate in workshops with professionals from the theatre industry.

Key Stage 3

In Year 7 - 9 all students receive 1 lesson per week of Drama. Students are assessed in four key areas, Responding, Developing, Performing and Evaluating. The course aims to develop social skills including communication, confidence, group working, negotiation and understanding of social issues and to introduce students to theatre history and theatrical styles.

Students have opportunities to develop numerous characters and learn how to structure and present performances in acting and in key roles behind the scenes.

GCSE

In years 10-11 we offer two different drama courses as options.

  • Edexcel GCSE in Drama

Assessed through practical and written coursework (60%) and a final practical external examination (40%)

  • BTEC Certificate in Performing Arts

A vocational course of continuously assessed coursework consisting of practical supported by portfolio evidence.

Extra Curricular

We encourage our students to become involved in a wide range of activities outside lessons including trips to theatre shows, drama workshops and the school drama club. We hold a Bi-annual school production in which all years can be involved and participate in the Northamptonshire Schools Festival Drama Club for years 7 - 8.

School Production

This years production will be The Little Shop of Horrors. Performance dates will be 28th, 29th and 30th March.  Rehearsals and Audition dates to follow.
