Students at NE School benefit from an up-to-date and progressive ICT department with five experienced teachers and excellent facilities including three computer suites. All students with home internet access are able to login to their school ICT user area using 24 hour school and this facility will soon be available through the school virtual learning environment (VLE).

 

Information and Communication Technology aims to prepare students for entering the work place and support them in becoming independent life long learners.

Key Stage 3

In Years 7 - 8 students participate in one ICT lesson each week. The Curriculum follows the Key Stage 3 ICT Strategy and includes the use of the following software:

 

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Graphics Packages
  • Control Software

 

From September 2008 Year 9 students will participate in one ICT lesson each week following the OCR level 2 specification leading to National First Award in ICT. This course of study will continue through Years 10 and 11 from September 2009.

 

The assessment for this course will consist of a portfolio of ICT evidence and is externally moderated by the examination board.

GCSE

In years 10 - 11 all students continue to participate in one ICT lesson each week and follow the OCR GCSE (Short Course) specification in Information and Communication Technology.

 

The assessment for GCSE consists of both coursework and examination as follows:

 

  • Coursework - 60% of final mark
  • Exam - 40% of final mark

Extra Curricular

Students are encouraged to use the resources/rooms for work four lunchtimes a week with the support of a member of the department.
